Berkshire Hathaway is an American multinational company that was founded in 1839 and falls under the conglomerate industry. It?s headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Oliver Chace founded it as a textile manufacturing company. It soon acquired different unrelated businesses and became a conglomerate in 1965 with the efforts of Warren Buffet (chairman and CEO) and Charlie Munger (vice-chairman). Berkshire Hathaway?s earnings are acquired through diverse businesses, of which insurance is the major source. Their two main insurance brands include GEICO and the reinsurance firm Gen Re. Furthermore, it also operates in other areas, including railroads, confectionaries, apparel, machinery, home furnishings, retail, railroads, electrical power, etc. Currently, Berkshire is one of the top largest American-owned private employers in the US.
