Federated Mutual Insurance Company, based in Owatonna, Minnesota, is an American company that provides property and casualty insurance. It was formed in the early 1900s when retail dealers in Minnesota wanted to save money on insurance. The company started as the Minnesota Implement Mutual Fire Insurance Company and changed names several times before becoming Federated Mutual Insurance Company. In 1948, Federated Mutual began offering casualty insurance, making it one of the first companies to provide both fire and casualty coverage. Later, in 1949, they added accident and health insurance. In 1959, they created Federated Life Insurance Company to offer life insurance products. Today, they operate in 48 states and have around 2,600 employees. They have a strong A+ credit rating.
