Freeport-McMoRan, or Freeport, is a publicly traded American company founded in 1912 by Eric Pierson Swenson et al. It is headquartered in Freeport-McMoRan Center, Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. The company is part of the metals and mining industry, a major producer of molybdenum, and the owner of the world's largest gold mine. Before that, it was formerly recognized as Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. The company was established by merging Texas Freeport Sulphur Company and McMoRan Oil & Gas Company in 1981. It produces gold, copper, and molybdenum as its major products. The company also owns some subsidiaries, including Atlantic Copper, S.A., PT Freeport Indonesia, and PT Irja Eastern Minerals.
