Nordstrom is a U.S.-based retail store chain company formed in 1901 by John W. Nordstrom and Carl F. Wallin. It is currently headquartered at 1617 Sixth Avenue Seattle, Washington, U.S. It operates a luxury departmental store chain. It started with a shoe store and opened in a second location in 1923. It began selling apparel and clothes and became a prominent retailer in 1971. Its founder, John W. Nordstrom, was born in 1871 in Northern Sweden. Then, he immigrated to the U.S. when he was just 16. He stayed in New York and saved money to buy a 20-acre potato farm. In 1987, he worked for the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada. In 1900, he got married and started a business venture.
