It offers extensive services from general insurance to mutual funds, and mortgage loans. Before the company was established, it was called The Widows and Orphans Friendly Society, which was later renamed to Prudential Friendly Society. Prudential delivers its services to retail as well as institutional customers and investors across the world. In 2019, it was the biggest insurance provider across the United States with $815.1 billion in total assets. The company started with a single product, burial insurance. Prudential Financial started as a mutual insurance company and evolved into a joint stock company.
