The State Compensation Insurance Fund, or State Fund, is a workers' compensation insurer set up by California in 1913. Founded in 1914 and headquartered in Sacramento, California It started helping workers in 1914 and has its main office in San Francisco while having offices across the state. State Fund was created to provide insurance for California businesses and today serves about 130,000 policyholders. It is one of the largest insurers in California, holding nearly 11% of the market share. In 2010, State Fund worked on a plan to lower costs for employers and managed to reduce fixed expenses by $300 million in 2013. This helps keep prices fair and offers better value for businesses needing workers' compensation insurance.
