About Business
The Utica Mutual Compensation Insurance Corporation was established on February 13, 1914, as a workers' compensation insurance provider. It was founded by visionary leaders whose guidance set the company on a steady path to success. Utica Mutual began transitioning to the independent agency system in 1928 by appointing agents to sell automobile insurance in regions that were not easily serviced by its centrally located branch offices throughout New York State. The company's growth was notably demonstrated in the 1950s when it constructed its Home Office building in New Hartford. Groundbreaking took place in December 1950, followed by the laying of the cornerstone on May 10, 1952, and occupancy occurred less than a year later.
